What We
Stand For

承先啟後・守義致公

A heritage entrusted to us.
A responsibility we carry together.

We honor those who came before us by how we care for one another today—and by what we leave for the generations still to come.

A brotherhood with a purpose · 同心同行

History gives us roots.
Service gives them meaning.

Our strength is measured in the trust we keep, the people we support, and the culture we carry forward.

Chee Kung Tong Supreme Lodge exists to preserve Chinese cultural heritage, offer mutual aid and fellowship, and contribute to the communities where we live. Our home is San Francisco’s Chinatown; our responsibility reaches from the elders who hold its memories to the young people who will shape its future.

The past · A shared table

Belonging begins
with showing up.

The archive preserves faces gathered around a common purpose. This 1923 San Francisco photograph records a Chinese Freemasons gathering at Hang Far Low—a moment of fellowship that still invites us to consider what it means to stand together.

Today, that spirit asks something practical of us: make room for others, listen with respect, and be present when our community needs us.

Six principles · 六大信念

The values we choose to live.

Passed forward through our community, made meaningful through everyday choices.

義

Righteousness

Stand for what is right.

Choose fairness over convenience. Treat people with dignity, speak honestly when something is wrong, and let our actions earn the trust our name carries.

秉持公義,尊重每一個人。

忠

Loyalty

Be someone others can count on.

Stay present for our members, families and community. Honor those who came before us by carrying our responsibilities with care and remaining true to our shared principles.

忠於承諾,守望相助。

仁

Benevolence

Turn compassion into service.

Notice who needs support. Give time, share knowledge and lend a hand. A strong brotherhood makes room for the needs of others.

以仁為本,以行動關懷社群。

勇

Courage

Meet hardship with conviction.

Face difficult moments without abandoning our values. Have the courage to serve, to listen, to learn and to take responsibility when change is needed.

勇於承擔,堅守正道。

和

Harmony

Build belonging across generations.

Bring elders and young people into the same conversation. Respect differences, resolve disagreements with patience, and strengthen the relationships that hold a community together.

敬老育新,和而不同。

信

Integrity

Let our word have weight.

Keep promises and be accountable. Preserve our history faithfully, distinguish evidence from tradition, and lead with the honesty we ask of one another.

言而有信,真誠待人。

The present · Values in community life

Keep the culture alive.
Keep the community strong.

Our commitments take us beyond the lodge’s walls: into the institutions that care for our neighbors, the gatherings that connect us, and the traditions that bring generations together.

Care is a shared responsibility.

Our relationship with Chinese Hospital connects the chapter’s story to a wider Chinatown tradition of community care. The hospital’s 2026 board installation represents the continuing work of people entrusted with that institution’s future.

Tradition lives through participation.

Music, movement and ceremony bring a community’s heritage into public life. At the 2025 Chinatown torch ceremony, Leung’s White Crane performed while Chee Kung Tong representatives joined the wider gathering. Such occasions connect cultural practice with the people carrying it forward.

Memory is a responsibility · 薪火相傳

Preserve the record.
Pass on the meaning.

The delegates pictured in October 1923 belong to a history larger than any one lifetime. Preserving their photographs, names and records gives future generations the chance to ask questions, discover connections and understand what came before them.

Our commitment is to share that history faithfully—with clear sources, care for the original images, and respect for what is known and what is still being discovered.
